Acid

·   Taste sour (remember: test, not taste)

·   Produce a painful sensation on the skin

·   React with certain metals (magnesium, zinc, and iron) to produce hydrogen (H₂) gas

·   React with limestone and baking soda to produce carbon dioxide

·   React with litmus paper and turn it red

 Common Acids Found in the Home

·   Vinegar  (Acetic Acid, CH₂COOH)

·   Auto battery acid (Sulfuric Acid, H₂SO₄)

·   Antiseptic; eye drops (Boric Acid, H₃BO₃)

·   Aspirin (Acetylsalicylic acid, C₁₆H₁₂O₆)
